教員養成の試み
当時、小学校の裁縫専科教員になるためには、名古屋までいって勉学することになっていたのですが、それを、この安城でも教育することができるようにしたら、と考えましたので、女子の職業教育に目をつけて、まず、在学中の本多さんに、裁縫専科受験を勧め、力を入れてみましたところ、その年の１０月の試験にみごとに合格いたしたのです。[英訳を表示]
At that time, in order to become an elementary school specialized sewing course teacher, we needed to go to Nagoya to study, but I wondered whether we could do the same in Anjo. So I’d had an eye on girls’ vocational training and encouraged Ms. Honda to try out for the specialized sewing course exam. In October of that year, she passed it brilliantly.
そのため、翌年には、７、８人の希望者が出ましたので、特別に、夜、受験勉強の指導をしたのです。私は昼は裁縫の理論及び実地に力をこめて指導し、夜は、長女二三子を背負いながら、３時間くらいずつ、裁縫教授法と、裁縫理論を講義しました。かくてその１０月には、７割まで合格いたしました。これらの者は、すぐ近所の小学校へ就職してゆきましたので、私も、学校経営に対する自信を持つことができるようになりました。[英訳を表示]
Because of her example, the next year, seven or eight applicants came forward — mainly night school students — whom we began to prepare specially for the examination. During the daytime, I taught mainly sewing theory and skills, while, for about three hours at night, carrying my first daughter, Fumiko, on my back, I taught sewing teaching methods and gave a lecture on sewing theory. As a result, as many as 70 % of my students passed the examination in October. With their earning jobs at nearby elementary schools, I became more confident about school operations.
